Monument of Dezső Kosztolányi

Dezső Kosztolányi, one of the most prominent writers of Hungarian literature in the 20th century, was born in Subotica. His written material has been translated into almost all European languages.

This extraordinary writer wrote in many literary genres. He was a journalist, literar translator and publicist writer. The author of the sculpture and the entire memorial is the academic sculptor from Subotica, Tibor Sarapka. The sculpture of Kosztolányi in its natural size is located on a spacious plateau, which is surrounded by six columns.

The monument is called The Grammar school student and intends to present the fire and rebellion Kostolanyi had in his work. Dezső Kosztolányi was a grammar school student in front of which the monument was set up and his father was the director of the same.

The monument was established in 2014. Opposite to the monument, there is Kostolanyi’s bust which was built in 1985 by Subotica’s sculptor, Gabor Almasi.
