Located on Strossmayer Street, the Yellow House is one of Subotica’s most striking architectural landmarks from the late 19th century and a designated Cultural Monument of Great Importance.
Built between 1880 and 1883 according to the designs of renowned local architect Titus Mačković, this elegant one-story Neo-Renaissance building was originally constructed to house the National Bank Savings Bank. Over the decades, the building changed functions several times, undergoing various architectural adaptations to suit its evolving roles.
During World War II, the site took on a darker chapter in local history, serving as the headquarters for special police forces and military structures, as well as a place of detention.
Following a thorough restoration in 2004, the Yellow House has reclaimed its rightful place as a proud cornerstone of the city’s historic and architectural heritage. Today, it serves as the vibrant home of the Hungarian Language Teacher Training Faculty in Subotica.
