The Dimitrijević House is one of Subotica’s most prominent 19th-century rental palaces, built during a dynamic era of urban revival following a series of devastating city fires.

The original owner was Jovan Dimitrijević, a distinguished figure who served as Mayor of Subotica in 1849 and later as a city senator. His family played a central role in the social and political life of the city.

Following the great fire of 1880—which destroyed numerous single-story buildings, including the original Dimitrijević home—plans were drawn up to erect an elegant new palace on the very same site.

Designed by the famed architect Titus Mačković, the grand Neo-Renaissance building was completed the following year. Featuring lively commercial shops on the ground floor and luxury rental apartments above, the Dimitrijević House stands today as a captivating gem of urban architecture and a proud testament to Subotica’s 19th-century golden era.
